Rusia inició su invasión de Ucrania el jueves de madrugada, con bombardeos en todo el país, incluida la capital, e incursiones terrestres en varios puntos del territorio que ya han causado las primeras bajas.
El inicio de la invasión fue condenado firmemente por gran parte de la comunidad internacional y por Kiev, que rompió sus relaciones diplomáticas con Moscú, y prometió defenderse, al tiempo solicitaba ayuda internacional para que se fuerce a Moscú a respetar la paz.
Los esfuerzos diplomáticos de las últimas semanas y la imposición de sanciones occidentales contra Rusia no bastaron para disuadir al presidente ruso Vladimir Putin, que había desplegado entre 150.000 y 200.000 tropas a lo largo de las fronteras de Ucrania desde hacía semanas.
